ü HARD DISK
Hard disk is a
secondary storage device used to store large volumes of data. A hard disk drive
(HDD) is a type of data storage device that uses spinning disks, or platters,
to store and retrieve digital information. The data is stored on magnetic
surfaces on the disk platters and is accessed by read/write heads that move
above the platters, similar to the way a record player's needle reads a vinyl
record.
Hard disk
drives are a common type of non-volatile storage, meaning that the data they
store is retained even when the power is turned off. HDDs are widely used in
desktop and laptop computers to store operating systems, applications, and
personal data. They are also used in servers, storage systems, and other types
of computer equipment.
As of my
knowledge cut off in 2021, the latest hard disk drives (HDDs) are typically
based on helium-filled technology and use the SATA III or SAS interface for
connectivity. Some of the latest HDDs offer higher capacities, faster data
transfer rates, and improved energy efficiency compared to previous generations.
One example of a current-generation HDD is the Western Digital Ultra Star DC
HC620. This drive uses helium-sealed technology to provide increased storage
density, improved performance, and reduced power consumption. It is designed
for use in data centres and offers capacities up to 14 TB and a maximum
sustained transfer rate of 260 MB/s.
