 A site map is an organized listing of all the contents of a Web site. There is an explosion of information on the Internet today, often making it tedious to navigate. Site maps lets a user visualize the Web site's information structure, and understand where he or she needs to go.

Sitemaps are hierarchical and come in various styles; they could be a simple listing, a table, or represented by diagrams. There are dedicated software tools and Web based services offering creation and maintenance of site maps.
