‘@’ means 'at' or 'for each'. So, 100 CDs @ 7/- would equal 700/-. On the Internet, the 'at' sign is used in e mail addresses to separate the user's name or ID from the user's Internet address. 

For example, user_name@internetaddress.com.

@ was selected for two reasons. Firstly, it did not appear in people's names. Secondly, it had the advantage of meaning 'at', which is very appropriate. The sign is also one of the special characters in the ASCII character set that is the standard for computer keyboards. It is also used in FTP addresses
